455 RAF Air Cadet (Morecambe and Heysham) Squadron Dining-in-Night
The Chairman and Secretary attended the recent Dining-in Night of 455 (Morecambe & Heysham) Squadron. Guest of Honour was our member Stuart Robinson who talked about his RAF career and the incident in Afghanistan that changed his life. He described the various activities that he and his colleagues at Team Legless get up to, including an attempt to hand cycle 455 miles in 24 hours. They didn't quite make it but were pleased to make a donation of £455 to the Squadron anyway. He also told us about competing in the Invictus Games and brought along his medals to show us.
We welcomed the new Officer in Charge, WO Bethany Blaikie, who has been associated with the Squadron since she was 14. We dined out Flt Lt Sam Rider who has been Acting OC for the last year and has steered the Squadron through a difficult time. For this she has received a well deserved Commandant's Commendation, one of only two awarded in the Wing this year. Well done Sam, we'll miss you but we wish you all the best, especially with the new baby expected in April.
We also dined out the Squadron chaplain, Fr Tom Davis, who has now taken up a new post in Douglas, Isle of Man. Fr Tom will also be very much missed by many groups in Morecambe, including our own Branch.
