Wings Appeal Activities

We have completed yet another year of helping serving personnel and ex-service families who have encountered difficulties of many kinds by holding Wings Appeal Collection days and other related actitivies, In this way we show our gratitude to people who have served their country but have encountered hard

times.

In our country's own hard times they did their best in a service during which life and limb may be demanded or psychological damage endured over a lifetime: so we will remember and help them with your support. RAFA was formed for this purpose, and all its members contribute in one form or other to the never-ending calls for our help, and how could we refuse those who never refused to do their duty by us?

Here is an example:

We were most privileged to welcome Stu to our  Branch and have him on our Committee.  We are most honoured to have them with us, and all members will make them very welcome.   Also little George became the Branch Mascot.

The good news is that Stu with RAFA support has gone from strength to strength taking part in paralympics, cycling around Isle of Man, Airfield Anarchy to mention just a few.  His achievements are such that he was awarded the Sun Military Award for overcoming adversity: a very richly deserved recognition.

To cap Stu's achievements, Amy his wife, was appointed as RAFA Northern Area Director.  What an amazing couple they are.

The Branch Committee has for the time being between them managed the Wings Appeal collection activities.  We are most grateful to all those members who rallied to our call for help, participated in the collection activities and in behind the scene activities to  make the Wings Concert a major success.  Again thank you one and all; it is this which makes membership of the branch worthwhile.

Our collecting is never dull: we meet the most interesting of people and our friends shopping too.  So join us and experience the fun of giving a few hours of your time each year and benefiting from meeting like-minded people, sharing in cordiality.
