Winners win a ride in Eric Morecambe's Rolls
At our recent RAF100 Dining-In Night, the first prize in the raffle was a ride in Eric Morecambe's Rolls Royce which was donated by Councillor Peter Yates. Peter runs a wedding car firm in Carnforth and in 2009 rescued the Rolls Royce Shadow from a scrap heap 24 hours before it was due to be dismantled in Shrewsbury. Eric Morecambe owned the car between 1971 and 1974 with the registration plate EM100 – which he later transferred to another car.
The car is now hired out for various functions and is often driven by Mike Fountain who was Eric Morecambe's chauffeur in Harpenden in the late 60s. Mike has written about his experiences in a book called “Driving Mr Morecambe”.
Here are some pictures of the winners of the prize as they prepare to embark on their drive around places in the town associated with Eric.
